Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the
hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear
came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same
place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where
Asahel fell down and died stood still.
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died.
And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead:
for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto

And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid,
and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill

not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.
And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all

the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought
that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me,
and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid:
And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We

fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall
seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee
three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that
there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what
answer I shall return to him that sent me.
