About this Edition

This electronic edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine was produced by John Walker in May 2002. It follows the 1935 Everyman edition, based on the 1927 Collected Short Stories plus the changes Wells made to the text included in the 1933 Gollancz Collected Scientific Romances. There have been so many editions of The Time Machine since its original book publication in 1895, including numerous revisions and modifications by Wells himself, that it is difficult to identify any text as canonical. In this text I have attempted to incorporate all changes made by Wells, while correcting typographical errors in printed editions to be consistent with Wells' usage in the bulk of the text.

The current edition was published in June of 2017. It updated the documents to current Web standards and typography.
