Naked Eye Sunspot Alert. The large sunspot group responsible for the current solar flare and aurora activity can be glimpsed with the unaided eye (through a safe solar filter) near the western (rightmost from the Northern hemisphere) limb of the Sun. A second sunspot group to its north is also visible to the protected unaided eye. Two simultaneously visible separate naked-eye sunspots is an extremely rare event! See our Naked Eye Sun-Spotting page for further information on observing sunspots with the unaided eye.
