Modern physics tells us that reality resides not in
aggregates but in discrete interactions and
transformations the aggregates only dimly reflect. Economics,
and the understanding of business built upon it, largely
relies on interpretation of aggregates with continuous
behaviour. These measures may reflect the behaviour of
markets in which discrete transactions are the only reality no
more than large number aggregates describe the underlying
events of physics.
