Bounding mines are intended to disable not just the person who triggers the mine, but others in the vicinity. When triggered, usually by pressure, an explosive charge propels the body of the mine upward to a height of one to two metres. A lanyard attached to the buried portion of the mine then pulls a pin, firing the main charge, which scatters fragments over a wide area.
