Author Michael Leinbach was Launch Director at the Kennedy Space
Center when space shuttle orbiter Columbia was lost
during its return to Earth on February 1st, 2003. In this
personal account, he tells the story of locating, recovering,
and reconstructing the debris from the orbiter, searching for
and finding the remains of the crew, and learning the lessons,
technical and managerial, from the accident.
